Stand Up For Something…. Stand Up For Love

A Spring Concert worth waiting for! It was in May, 2019 that Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir last presented a live spring concert and it almost goes without saying that the choir is thrilled to return to the stage in a live, kick-off to summer concert, “Stand Up For Something… Stand Up For Love” on Saturday, June 4th (3 pm and 8 pm).

Artistic & Executive Director, Gail Suderman, has brought together the Good Noise Gospel Band, and together with the choir, is welcoming two dynamic singers as guest artists, Crystal Hicks and Timothy Fuller. Both are no strangers to Good Noise audiences, each one possessing a voice and stage presence that embodies the depth of sound and infectious energy that gospel music brings.

The world has been and continues to be in turmoil – it’s sometimes hard to find hope and joy as we hear of all that people are enduring both near and far. Music for this concert has been selected, in particular, to remind the listener that there is still love, hope and victory in our daily lives. Songs of both gospel origin and gospel-like music from popular and R&B genres will both lift and console the spirit. Powerful songs by Andra Day and Common, “Glory” and “Stand Up For Something” are compelling reminders to tap into personal courage and be a support for others. Exuberant and spirited gospel songs such as “Victory” (from the movie soundtrack “The Gospel” featuring Yolanda Adams), and Bryan Popin’s dynamic “I Can Make It”, will be sure to have the audience clapping and on their feet. In contrast, songs from popular genres of music by Sting (Fragile), Bruce Springsteen (The Rising) and Simon and Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water) that capture where we’ve come from through the past 2 years, where we are in this world, and looking at the path forward, will bring both encouragement and solace.

Now in its 18th year, Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir has been performing its high calibre brand of gospel music to sell-out audiences across the region and beyond. Good Noise has become Vancouver’s “go-to” gospel choir, performing over the years with artists such as Barbra Streisand, David Foster, Josh Groban, Holly Cole, Daniel Lapp, Dee Daniels, Dawn Pemberton, Warren Dean Flandez, Maureen Washington, Katherine Penfold and Jim Byrnes, and has appeared on CBC TV, CBC Radio, Global TV, CityTV, Bravo, Knowledge Network and Vision TV. The choir is accompanied by musicians Mike Kalanj on Hammond B3, Laurence Mollerup on Bass Guitar, Elliot Polsky on Drums, Ingrid Stitt on Alto and Soprano Saxophones and Artistic Director Gail Suderman leads the choir from the piano.
